Journey Toward Stress Relief: An Integrative Approach

We will welcome Anita Marchesani, Ph.D. who will discuss the importance of embracing stress relief as a way of life.  She will talk about taking small steps in a few key areas to achieve a more balanced and less pressured lifestyle.  Reducing stress is more than a feel-good journey - it is a necessary step towards better health and well being.est lives and achieve their objectives.

Registration will open on 7/17/08.

Luncheon Menu includes your choice of Salad Duo (home made chicken and tuna salad, served on a bed of leaf lettuce with an array of crisp vegetable crudite), Rolls or Buffalo Chicken Wrap, Chips. (Both meals will be served with Fresh Fruit Cup and Dessert (Peach Melba Sundae)

September  16, 2008:

Explore the Byrnes Health Education Center

For a change of pace, we will be meeting at the Susan P. Byrnes Health Education Center where Marcia Meehan, President and CEO, will speak to us about the history of the center.  Tours of the facility will also be available, so plan to join us for a great luncheon.

Registration will open on 8/21/08.

Luncheon menu will include assorted wraps (including chicken salad, turkey or veggie), drink and oatmeal chocolate chip cherry cookie.

We welcomed Sharon Marquart, motivational speaker, life coach and successful author. By applying the methods and philosophies of metaphysics to the practicality of everyday life, .Sharon has inspired hundreds of men and women to live their best lives and achieve their objectives.

Special Evening Event
Wine Tasting & Silent Auction

The Wine Tasting & Silent Auction to benefit the YMCA's GAPP Program (Girls Achieving Pure Potential) at the Integrity Bank, York, PA (6-8PM) was a huge success!  Members and Guests tasted great wines from Four Springs Winery and mouth-watering hors d'oeuvres from KEO Asian Grill & Sushi Restaurant.

Setting Goals

With the WNY Annual Meeting, we celebrated another year of helping women enjoy the power of networking.  Members met and voted to confirm the Board of Directors for 2008-09. Then, after a very brief business meeting, we welcomed Cindy Rowe (Cindy Rowe Auto Glass) who spoke to us about the importance of Setting Goals.

Women and Heart Disease
Cindy Yingling, a Cardiac Rehab nurse working with the
Women's Heart Program at Wellspan joined us to speak  about heart disease as the number one cause of death in women. She addresed: Individual heart risk assessment, blood pressure and cholesterol guidelines, dietary tips/weight loss, signs and symptoms of heart attack in women,  exercise guidelines. Because there is so much information in all of these areas, Cindy coveredr basic tips and answered questions.

Business Etiquette
We welcomed Lynne Breil (The Professional Edge, Inc.) who provided an enriching presentation on the Etiquette of Business. Lynne engaged the audience; and members participated as she explored how to handle business introductions, business meals, and much more.   Lynne was kind enough to step in on very short notice when our scheduled speaker was unable to attend because of illness.

Tourism in York County

Anne Druck of the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau gave us an overview of Pennsylvania's and York County's tourism industry.  Most residents are familiar with some element or asset of our county's tourism industry: the York Expo Center, Street Rods, Factory Tour Capital of the World, Gates-House Plough Tavern, Nixon Park, Uncork York Wine Trail etc.  Anne shared how these assets and more fit into our strategies to increase the economic impact of tourism in York County.

We welcomed
Jaime Garland, FOX 43 News Anchor as our guest speaker. Jaime shared her career experiences and what it takes to make it in television news as well as  some tips on how to reach your own goals.

In November, we welcomed Lori O. Mitrick, President Commissioner, York County Board of Commissioners, who expanded upon her belief that "one is not a leader by the title she holds but by the person she is".  She covered:

  • Her journey to who she is today

  • The hills and valleys she's experienced

  • The people who have inspired her

October 16, 2007:

Breast Cancer Risk: Can You Make a Difference?

Diane McElwain joined us at our October meeting. She  has been a Registered Nurse since 1970 and has specialized in oncology for the last 18 years. She has been the oncology nurse coordinator at the York Cancer Center since its founding in 1993. Diane is responsible for patient educational activities and support services as well as coordination of the cancer patient experience in the outpatient setting. She is responsible for many of the special events that are planned by the Cancer Center. Diane holds state and national positions in specialty organizations that focus on the cancer experience.  She spoke about he following:

  • The importance life-long skills for women and breast health

  • Breast self examination and the mammogram experience

  • Importance of early detection

  • The lifestyle and personal changes to reduce the risk of cancer

Leadership
At our September meeting at the Out Door Country Club, we welcomed Jane Rice, Vice President of Public Relations and Philanthropy at Utz Quality Foods, Inc., who shared a unique perspective on leadership.  Jane discussed personal growth through adversities and also covered:

>> Gaining self esteem and expressing gratitude
>> Creating my own path as I return the blessings
>> Leaving a Trail: Living my life more purposefully and more fulfillingly

Setting Goals in a Changing World
Patricia Cumor, President and Owner of First Capital Insulation, Inc. joined us.  Patricia, who was named one of Pennsylvania's Best 50 Women in Business in 1997, shared her experience and expertise and spoke to us about the importance of goal setting. She talked about the end results of goals set in her life and also cover:

>> Think about what is important to you
>> Procrastinate, Are you putting your goals off?
>> Give yourself the rocking chair test
>> A way to eliminate depression/anxiety in your life

Customer Service and People Skills
Kristi Walsh, Vice President of Customer Development for the York County Chamber of Commerce spoke to us from her 25 years of sales, marketing and customer service experience and helped us understand how customer service and people skills go hand in hand and why. We learned why we all need to give these elements an important place in mind as we do business -- no matter what our business is.

Cindy Rowe is founder and president of Cindy Rowe Auto Glass, a firm specializing in retail and commercial full auto glass service, and paintless dent repair.  In capacity as president she oversees all facets of the firm's operations, including finance, human resources, operations, business development, strategic planning and staff development.  Cindy started the business in 1980 as her only employee, doing windshield repairs.  She has personally repaired over 10,000 windshields while working in the field. Since its inception the business has grown to 12 full-service shops in the PA area, including one in the Hagerstown, MD area. Through working with electronic media advertising, she has developed a well-known media image.

 Cindy started her professional career as a Registered Nurse, left the profession to "branch out" in a very different arena, then, after 22 years of inactive nursing, took a refresher course, activated her R N license and now volunteers one day a week at her home hospital in Baltimore.

 She has received a number of awards and has been written up in a number of local and national magazines/ newspapers.
